Hello all (1st post here!),
I recently ran some RNA extraction samples on Agilent's Bioanalyzer for QC check. However, I realized afterward that Agilent doesn't calculate RIN scores for its mRNA protocol, only for the Total RNA protocol. The data collected is the same, and the program ought to be able to get a RIN score from the trace (electropherogram). Is there a way to voodoo the program into giving me a RIN score on the mRNA protocol? (Yes, I know that the most accurate method is to examine the traces and make a personal evaluation of the quality. But it would be great to have a summary RIN score for each sample as well.) |

There are some information on RIN calculation in this application note: http://www.chem.agilent.com/Library/...989-1165EN.pdf

Briefly, no it isn't possible because mRNA doesn't contain rRNA peaks and these are the primary focus of a RIN score.
