  • Senior Bioinformatics Scientist, Oncology

AstraZeneca is a global, innovation-driven, integrated biopharmaceutical company. We are dedicated to discovering, developing, and delivering innovative, meaningful medicines and healthcare solutions that enrich the lives of patients. The vision of AstraZeneca Oncology is to redefine cancer, redefine our solutions to cancer, and restore patients' lives.

The Oncology Bioinformatics Team supports oncology drug projects throughout the discovery pipeline, from new target discovery to early clinical trials. The global group, currently 10 full time positions plus 3 post-doctoral roles, balance activities between three areas of focus: targets and disease; drug projects; and biomarker translation.

There is an exciting opportunity for a talented and motivated bioinformatics scientist to join the group. Initially, the successful individual will focus on analysis of public and proprietary ‘omic data sets to characterize the molecular landscape of tumours and tumour models. The individual will nominate new target opportunities, and aid positioning of the early portfolio in disease. Encouragement and support will be provided to help the individual develop specialist knowledge and skill sets.

Role location in Cambridge, United Kingdom

    Accountabilities/Responsibilities

    • Work closely with new target and disease/model expert teams across AZ Oncology UK/US.
o Understand scientific goals, and identify / suggest informatics solutions.
    o Deliver impactful Bioinformatics support.
    • Conceptualise and support innovative information solutions to enable drug discovery projects to optimally utilise relevant data and support business decisions.
    • Work with cross-disciplinary groups to translate new hypotheses into clinic application.
    • Work with the bioinformatics group leadership to understand and agree project priorities.
    • Proactively engage in knowledge sharing and peer support to build expertise in the tools and techniques critical to Oncology Bioinformatics.

Recent Advances in Sequencing Analysis Tools
    by seqadmin

The sequencing world is rapidly changing due to declining costs, enhanced accuracies, and the advent of newer, cutting-edge instruments. Equally important to these developments are improvements in sequencing analysis, a process that converts vast amounts of raw data into a comprehensible and meaningful form. This complex task requires expertise and the right analysis tools. In this article, we highlight the progress and innovation in sequencing analysis by reviewing several of the...

Essential Discoveries and Tools in Epitranscriptomics
    by seqadmin

The field of epigenetics has traditionally concentrated more on DNA and how changes like methylation and phosphorylation of histones impact gene expression and regulation. However, our increased understanding of RNA modifications and their importance in cellular processes has led to a rise in epitranscriptomics research. “Epitranscriptomics brings together the concepts of epigenetics and gene expression,” explained Adrien Leger, PhD, Principal Research Scientist...
