  • Geolocation of SEQanswers Visitors

Based on some interest, I started digging into the localization of our visitors, and thought it would be interesting to share.

Google Analytics makes visualization of this data easy, unfortunately there doesn't appear to be a way to extract all this data to enable further parsing. If someone is a GA-API pro, let me know. We could go straight from the ips, but that's more involved. I'd be willing to spring for one of these pay services (for example MaxMind), but I'd definitely need someone to take the reins.

So what follows are visitor maps directly from Analytics. If someone wants to see specific areas in more detail, let me know.

Hostip.info is OK but I encountered reliability issues when I was using it. A better alternative would be to get a commercial geolocation database like from IP2Location or maybe even go with a web service from FraudLabs which has a free account : http://www.fraudlabs.com/freelicense.aspx?PackageID=2e .

                    Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
                    by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...

                    Strategies for Sequencing Challenging Samples
                    by seqadmin

Despite advancements in sequencing platforms and related sample preparation technologies, certain sample types continue to present significant challenges that can compromise sequencing results. Pedro Echave, Senior Manager of the Global Business Segment at Revvity, explained that the success of a sequencing experiment ultimately depends on the amount and integrity of the nucleic acid template (RNA or DNA) obtained from a sample. “The better the quality of the nucleic acid isolated...
