  • What is the meaning of NIPH in Acinetobacter_sp._NIPH_298 ?

    Sry about this stupid question.

I saw there are lots of Acinetobacter species on nicb ftp. If I want to do the diversity profiling, should I download all the Acinetobacter* data?

    Thanks,

    Lots of A.b. etc

So, yes, there are lots of A. b. in the databases. NIPH is probably National Institute of Public Health, Prague.

Having genomes without the metadata may be useful for something, but many of the assemblies will be problematic. Many will be assembled to reference, so that similarities can be spurious.

You can find some A. b. optical maps published for some strains, but not most.

In the end, depends on what you need to do...

Thanks for your answer. NIPH == National Institute of Public Health. which make a lot of senses.

So what does the metadata mean here?

Essential Discoveries and Tools in Epitranscriptomics
        by seqadmin

The field of epigenetics has traditionally concentrated more on DNA and how changes like methylation and phosphorylation of histones impact gene expression and regulation. However, our increased understanding of RNA modifications and their importance in cellular processes has led to a rise in epitranscriptomics research. “Epitranscriptomics brings together the concepts of epigenetics and gene expression,” explained Adrien Leger, PhD, Principal Research Scientist on Modified Bases...

        Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
        by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...
