Senior Scientist Bioinformatics in Mammalian Metagenomics in Toulouse, France

Vaiomer is a biotechnology company based in Toulouse, France, situated within a large modern biomedical campus. The company’s mission is to develop and exploit commercial opportunities stemming from the recently-demonstrated role played by microbiota in the onset of metabolic diseases and their cardiovascular complications.
The proprietary technology and development programs being pursued by Vaiomer are based on discoveries arising from the research work of the Company’s scientific founders, Prof Rémy Burcelin and Prof Jacques Amar of the University of Toulouse and INSERM (see Nature Reviews Endocrinology 8, 3; January 2012).
Vaiomer is pursuing R&D programs, both in-house and in collaboration with industrial partners, aiming to validate novel biomarkers and therapeutic targets. Research collaborations are in progress with the French pharmaceutical company, Servier, and the Merieux Research Institute.

    Mission:
Senior post-doctoral scientist with experience in bioinformatics and statistics sought to fill key company position with broad career development opportunities. Candidate must be able to work independently and possess a solid understanding of biology, computational methods and management skills. The position offers a competitive salary (negotiable depending on candidate experience) and full social benefits.

    Job Requirements:

    - Ph.D. in Biology, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Statistical Genetics, or a related field.
    - Proven experience using bioinformatics to analyze high-throughput genetic and genomic data.
    - General shell scripting knowledge and experience working in a LINUX environment, particularly with large text files and genomic information.
    - Demonstrated knowledge and programming experience in R, C, C++, and an ability to pick up new programming languages as necessary (Perl/Python).
    - Familiarity and working knowledge with standard bioinformatics tools, packages, algorithms, and databases.
    - Familiarity with statistical analysis methods and tools for bioinformatics (R/bioconductor)
    - Excellent written and verbal communication
    - Effective judgment and problem solving with little supervision is imperative for this position.
    - Highly motivated and committed to biomedical research.
    - Multi-tasking.
    - Fluency in English.

Priority will be given to candidates that have:

Essential Discoveries and Tools in Epitranscriptomics
    by seqadmin

The field of epigenetics has traditionally concentrated more on DNA and how changes like methylation and phosphorylation of histones impact gene expression and regulation. However, our increased understanding of RNA modifications and their importance in cellular processes has led to a rise in epitranscriptomics research. “Epitranscriptomics brings together the concepts of epigenetics and gene expression,” explained Adrien Leger, PhD, Principal Research Scientist...

    Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
    by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...
