  • Computational biologist, analysis oriented

The Center of Translational Genomics and Bioinformatics (CTGB) is seeking a profile to reinforce the core team responsible for analysis of omics data generated by the Genomics Unit.

    The role will involve:
    • analysis of NGS data, including the integration of different data sources, in collaboration with external groups
    • generation of hypothesis and ideas
    • participation to lab meetings and scientific discussions
    • writing of relevant papers

The ideal candidate will have a PhD in molecular biology, bioinformatics or related field, with appropriate experience. Previous knowledge on analysis of data from prokaryotic organisms will be considered a strong advantage. Knowledge of R/Bioconductor environment is essential. Experience in programming in Python or other high-level language will be a plus.

The successful candidate will be self-motivated and capable of working both independently and within a closely interacting team of scientists.

Good English, written and oral is absolutely required.

Salary will be commensurate with experience (range 30,000 - 38,000 Eur gross). The appointment will be for one year and renewed yearly, depending on circumstances at the time of the review.

CTGB is part of San Raffaele Hospital in Milan, Italy, one of the largest research hospitals in Europe. CTGB is a multidisciplinary group focused on analysis of genomics, transcriptomics and epigenomics of disease to achieve better diagnosis and cure.

Essential Discoveries and Tools in Epitranscriptomics
    by seqadmin

The field of epigenetics has traditionally concentrated more on DNA and how changes like methylation and phosphorylation of histones impact gene expression and regulation. However, our increased understanding of RNA modifications and their importance in cellular processes has led to a rise in epitranscriptomics research. “Epitranscriptomics brings together the concepts of epigenetics and gene expression,” explained Adrien Leger, PhD, Principal Research Scientist...

    Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
    by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...
