  • another fastq-dump error (bad version)

    Hello folks,

I downloaded SRA files from the following experiment:
    http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sra?term=SRP007506

But when I try to convert them to fastq files, I get the following error messages, complaining about a bad version (of what?):

    Code:
    fastq-dump SRR314741.sra
2011-08-04T07:32:00 fastq-dump.2.0.1 err: header bad version while validating header within database module - Failed to open index 'skey'
2011-08-04T07:32:00 fastq-dump.2.0.1 err: param bad version while executing function within virtual database module - Failed SRR314741
I assume that the SRA files don't match the fastq-dump version but how can I find out the right version to use?

    Thanks in advance,
    Oliver

Ok, I found out that the data is that new (from july 2011) that one has to use the newest version of fastq-dump (also july 2011). Then it works (ok, afterwards its pretty obvious). I think the error messages should be clearer or there should be an explanation on the site. When googling for this message I couldn't find any hit.

        Strategies for Sequencing Challenging Samples
        by seqadmin

Despite advancements in sequencing platforms and related sample preparation technologies, certain sample types continue to present significant challenges that can compromise sequencing results. Pedro Echave, Senior Manager of the Global Business Segment at Revvity, explained that the success of a sequencing experiment ultimately depends on the amount and integrity of the nucleic acid template (RNA or DNA) obtained from a sample. “The better the quality of the nucleic acid isolated...
