    Workshop on Cutting-edge Bioinformatics

    June 20-24, 2011, Shenzhen, China

Workshop on Cutting-edge Bioinformatics will be organized by BGI (formerly known as the Beijing Genomics Institute), one of the leading genomics centers in the world. In the past 11years, BGI has established a proven track record of excellence, delivering results with high efficiency and accuracy for innovative, high-profile research that has been published to date in more than 170 top-tier academic journals. BGI utilizes Sanger and next-generation sequencing technologies to provide the largest sequencing capacity in the world.

With the rapid development of sequencing technology, the huge and growing amount of high-quality data is extensively produced and the information that the data can provide continue to create challenges in Bioinformatics. To meet the growing needs, BGI, based on its powerful infrastructure and acknowledged research background, will provide a professional platform for learning technologies and sharing experience on bioinformatics at this workshop during June 20-24, 2011. The workshop combines professional theory lectures delivered by senior experts with hands-on practice for participants.

Essential Discoveries and Tools in Epitranscriptomics
    by seqadmin

The field of epigenetics has traditionally concentrated more on DNA and how changes like methylation and phosphorylation of histones impact gene expression and regulation. However, our increased understanding of RNA modifications and their importance in cellular processes has led to a rise in epitranscriptomics research. “Epitranscriptomics brings together the concepts of epigenetics and gene expression,” explained Adrien Leger, PhD, Principal Research Scientist on Modified Bases...

    Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
    by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...
