10x Single-Cell RNA seq GEMS storage

I have a stock of 10x 3' v3 GEMS that was left at room temperature for 24 hours. 10x Genomics advises storage at room temperature no longer than 8 hours. The oligos are not covalently attached to the gel matrix and can apparently diffuse into neighboring GEMS if left at room temp rather than -80C. This would give a result looking like bulk RNA seq rather than single cell.

I spoke to a tech rep and he unfortunately said 10x is very secretive about this and cannot provide guidance in this case. Just wondering if anyone has any experience with using GEMS left at room temperature before.
