  • Postdoctoral Fellow, Master or PhD positions at Shanghai Jiao Tong University,China

Postdoctoral Fellow, Master or PhD position in Biostatistics, Statistic Genetics, Bioinformatics, Systems Biology and Genomics are available at the Interdisciplinary Platform of Biostatistics of Shanghai Jiao Tong University Department of Mathematics , and the Translational Research Center for Integrative Omics Program for Translational Medicine of Shanghai Jiao Tong University Bio-X Institutes.

We employs multiple complementary approaches coupling statistical computation and experimentation to study the diversity of the human genome, transcriptome, and proteome and their roles in human complex diseases. We work in a highly multidisciplinary and collaborative environment with effective interactions between computational scientists, experimental biologists, statisticians, and clinical teams.

We are looking for qualified graduates to work in projects within the areas of developing Next Generation Sequencing and Microarray computational or statistical tools , and analysis of multiple omic datastes(GWAS, transcriptome, proteome, and metabolome) in human cardiovascular diseases, cancer, and neuropsychiatric disorders for the mission of translational research.

Candidates must have achieved academic excellence and be highly motivated to pursue a PhD/master project in one of the above research areas. Applicants must hold or receive, before enrollment in the program, a university degree that qualifies them to enter a Postdoctoral Fellow, PhD or MS. The positions are intended for strong candidates with background in Statistics, Computer Science, or Human Genomics/Genetics. Applicants with proven experiences/expertise in statistic genomics, computational systems biology, and high-throughput next-generation sequencing data analysis are preferred. Excellent English or Chinese(mandarin) communication skills are required, and prospective candidates should be highly motivated and able to think creatively. Truly exceptional candidates with only computational or statistic background will also be strongly considered.

Shanghai Jiao Tong University(http://www.sjtu.edu.cn), one of the top-ranked academic institutions in China, was established in 1896, and has been leading the scientific research in China. Bio-X Institutes (http://www.bio-x.cn/en/index.php) is a well-established interdisciplinary centre at the Shanghai Jiao Tong University. The current director of the Institutes is Prof. Lin He, a senior fellow of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the honorary director is Prof. Steve Zhu, Nobel Laureate in Physics. Several in-house facilities are active, including the next generation sequencing facility with Illumina HiSeq 2000 and high-performance computers.

To Apply: Please submit a cover letter summarizing your research experience, scientific interests, and CV including the names and contact information of at least 2 references via email, to: [email protected]; or [email protected]. The email subject should be entitled "Application for PhD/Master or Postdoctoral Position in Biostatistics and Bioinformatics".

All interested candidates irrespective of age, gender, disability, race, religion or ethnic background are encouraged to apply

    Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
    by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...

    Strategies for Sequencing Challenging Samples
    by seqadmin

Despite advancements in sequencing platforms and related sample preparation technologies, certain sample types continue to present significant challenges that can compromise sequencing results. Pedro Echave, Senior Manager of the Global Business Segment at Revvity, explained that the success of a sequencing experiment ultimately depends on the amount and integrity of the nucleic acid template (RNA or DNA) obtained from a sample. “The better the quality of the nucleic acid isolated...
