    Position Code: 13-PD-013
    Reports To: Director, Cloud Applications
    Department: Cloud Applications

    Responsibilities

You are passionate about analysis and interpretation of genomic data. You love to work and augment genomic datasets with meaningful annotations. You enjoy working hands-on with people to solve informatics challenges. In your mind pipelines aren’t used for fluid transport, but automate compute of large datasets.

The Complete Genomics Cloud Application team is working on next generation applications in the field of Genomics. We believe in having small teams of highly influential engineers who have the resources required to do what needs to be done. If you want to help make an app that could have a measurable, positive impact on the lives of people, then join our team.

    You Should be Familiar With:
    • DNA sequence, variation, and annotation databases (dbSNP, redSeq, CCDS, UCSC, Ensembl, GO, HGMD, etc).
    • Bioinformatics fundamentals
    • Manipulating, analyzing, and annotating very large genomic data sets, both in exploratory and pipelined fashions
    • Statistical analysis
    • Coding ability in scripting and OO languages such as C++, Python, Perl, Javascript, Java, Shell, etc.

    Desirable, but not required:
    • Experience developing server side web applications with Java, Grails, Spring and Hibernate
    • Experience building server side REST/JSON APIs

    Desirable, but not required

    Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
    by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...

    Strategies for Sequencing Challenging Samples
    by seqadmin

Despite advancements in sequencing platforms and related sample preparation technologies, certain sample types continue to present significant challenges that can compromise sequencing results. Pedro Echave, Senior Manager of the Global Business Segment at Revvity, explained that the success of a sequencing experiment ultimately depends on the amount and integrity of the nucleic acid template (RNA or DNA) obtained from a sample. “The better the quality of the nucleic acid isolated...
