  • Postdoctoral Fellowship, 'Omics Data Integration and Network Analysis

We are seeking a highly motivated candidate with a background in Bioinformatics or Computer Science for a post-doctoral position in the Center for Genes, Environment and Health at National Jewish Health (NJH), Denver, CO, the #1 respiratory hospital in the US since 1998. The Center is an interdisciplinary program dedicated to using genomic technologies for the scientific and clinical investigation of the genetics of complex lung and immune-related conditions. This NLM (NIH) funded postdoctoral fellowship is offered in conjunction with the Computational Bioscience Program at the University of Colorado, School of Medicine. The position will be focused on developing methods for interaction-network analysis and integration of 'omics datasets to aid in elucidating biological mechanisms from experimental datasets. The ideal candidate has a strong computational background in high-throughput data analysis of genomic-scale datasets (transcriptomic, proteomic, metabolomic), particularly in the context of protein or metabolite interaction networks. Strong skills working in a Unix/Linux enviroment is also required. The candidate would collaborate with researchers and clinicians at National Jewish Health to develop tools to create and mine interaction networks from multiple 'omics datasets. Experience with metabolomics data is a plus.

More information can be found at: http://compbio.ucdenver.edu/pages/jobopportunities.html. Additional questions about the nature of the position can be directed to Dr. Sonia Leach, [email protected].

QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must have a Ph.D. degree and be U.S. Citizens or Permanent Residents.

SALARY/BENEFITS: Successful candidates will be offered the NRSA specified stipend (based on years of experience), medical insurance, $2000 per year in travel support and $6500 per year in additional research-related expenses.

DURATION: The initial appointment will be for a one-year period, with the possibility of a yearly extension to up to three years based upon performance.

TO APPLY: Send to [email protected] a cover letter, curriculum vitae, and a statement of research interests; also arrange for three letters of recommendation to be sent to the same email address.

UC Denver is an equal opportunity employer. Women and minorities are especially encouraged to apply.

Essential Discoveries and Tools in Epitranscriptomics
    by seqadmin

The field of epigenetics has traditionally concentrated more on DNA and how changes like methylation and phosphorylation of histones impact gene expression and regulation. However, our increased understanding of RNA modifications and their importance in cellular processes has led to a rise in epitranscriptomics research. “Epitranscriptomics brings together the concepts of epigenetics and gene expression,” explained Adrien Leger, PhD, Principal Research Scientist on Modified Bases...

    Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
    by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...
