  • Trying to convert embl to fasta: problems with Emboss 6.5.7

    Hi, everyone,

    and Happy New Year.

    I am trying to convert some embl files to fasta using EMBOSS 6.5.7. The problem is that the resulting files have got a sequence length different from the source. They are all single sequence files and here is my command:

    seqret embl::input_file.embl fasta:utput_file.fasta

    Is there any known bug or am I doing it wrong?

    Thanks for your help,
    Max

    edit: the smiley is actually ': o' without the space between characters.

    That command works for me.
    Code:
    $ seqret embl::input_file.embl fasta::output_file.fasta
    Did you move the file between a PC/Mac and a Unix machine by any chance? This may be the usual problem with file format differences.

    Hint: Put [ CODE ] command [ /CODE ] tags around your command to cure the smiley issue (remove the extra space I put in before/after the CODE when you use the tag).

      ... Thanks. I do not remember on which computer I originally stored the files. I am going to download them again and try. Hope that is the problem.

      Regards,
      Max

        Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
        by seqadmin

        Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...

        Strategies for Sequencing Challenging Samples
        by seqadmin

        Despite advancements in sequencing platforms and related sample preparation technologies, certain sample types continue to present significant challenges that can compromise sequencing results. Pedro Echave, Senior Manager of the Global Business Segment at Revvity, explained that the success of a sequencing experiment ultimately depends on the amount and integrity of the nucleic acid template (RNA or DNA) obtained from a sample. “The better the quality of the nucleic acid isolated...
