  • Research Assistant Position in Bioinformatics at Inserm, Paris, France

Research Assistant Position in Bioinformatics of Next-Generation Sequencing data
The Department of Genomics & Physiopathology of Cardiovascular Diseases (DGPCD) of the INSERM UMR_S 1166 ICAN Institute is an international leader department in genetic research directed by David-Alexandre Trégouët. Its emphasis is placed on the disentangling of the genetic architecture underlying cardiovascular diseases, and developed programmes
covered all scientific aspects related to genetic research including molecular biology, cellular biology, statistical genomics and bioinformatics.
DGPCD is a recruiting a post-doctoral bioinformatician/biostatistician for an integrated research project entitled "Genetics of inherited cardiomyopathies by use of complementary high-throughput DNA sequencing approaches". This project relies on the analysis of Next Generation Sequencing DNA data derived from whole-exome and target gene re-sequencing in large sample of families and unrelated patients with cardiomyopathies.
Motivated candidate would have a PhD in bioinformatics, computer science, applied statistics or in statistical genetics (or equivalent experience).
Experience in the analysis/manipulation of large datasets is required, as well as a good knowledge of the R language and the Linux environment. Previous experience in NGS data analysis is appreciated. French language skills are not a prerequisite.
The selected candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary team, including experienced scientists in molecular genetics, bioinformatics and clinical genomics, but also a dynamic group of ~10 graduate/PhD students. The selected candidate will be jointly supervised by Dr Philippe Charron and Dr David-Alexandre Trégouët for the clinical and bioinformatics aspects of the project, respectively. The INSERM UMR_S 1166 DGPCD is located at the
center of Paris and is part of the Pierre and Marie Curie University
Campus (http://www.upmc.fr/en/index.html), the first cutting edge research French University offering a high-level scientific environment, including a NGS platform. It is also a team of the Institute for Cardiometabolism And Nutrition (ICAN) which brings together a large community of researcher, clinicians and industrial partners entirely dedicated to stimulate fundamental, clinical and translational research in the field of ardiometabolism disorders (http://www.ican-institute.org/).
Position is full-time and initially restricted for two years. Position is immediately opened and candidates should submit CV to Dr David-Alexandre Trégouët ([email protected]).

Essential Discoveries and Tools in Epitranscriptomics
    by seqadmin

The field of epigenetics has traditionally concentrated more on DNA and how changes like methylation and phosphorylation of histones impact gene expression and regulation. However, our increased understanding of RNA modifications and their importance in cellular processes has led to a rise in epitranscriptomics research. “Epitranscriptomics brings together the concepts of epigenetics and gene expression,” explained Adrien Leger, PhD, Principal Research Scientist on Modified Bases...

    Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
    by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...
