  • Senior PostDoc position at the University of Veterinary Medicine in Vienna

A postdoc/senior postdoc bioinformatician position is open in Prof. Veronika Sexl‘s group at the University of Veterinary Medicine in Vienna, Austria. This position is funded by the ERC for up to five years.
Our research mainly focuses on leukemia and hematopoiesis with a focus on bioinformatic analysis of transcriptomic and epigenomic data. We work with next-generation sequencing (NGS) data that are generated from our facilities in Vienna.
You will use and further develop the procedures that we have already established to perform bioinformatic analysis on the sequencing data (ChIP-Seq, RNA-Seq, Microarray, RRBS) and will develop pipelines to automate these procedures to meet the needs of our lab members.
My group is part of a research-network including leading scientists in the field in Vienna such as bioinformaticians from CeMM, IMP, Medical University of Vienna and the BSF.

    Requirements:
    - Ph.D. in computer science, computational biology, bioinformatics or related fields.
    - Strong problem solving skills.
    - Excellent knowledge with statistics and data mining techniques.
    - Good knowledge about molecular biology, genomics and sequencing technology.
    - Strong programming skills with scripting languages such as Perl, Python or PHP.
    - Strong skills with statistical computing platforms; R preferred.
    - Working experience with Linux operating system.
    - Excellent communication skills.

Essential Discoveries and Tools in Epitranscriptomics
    by seqadmin

The field of epigenetics has traditionally concentrated more on DNA and how changes like methylation and phosphorylation of histones impact gene expression and regulation. However, our increased understanding of RNA modifications and their importance in cellular processes has led to a rise in epitranscriptomics research. “Epitranscriptomics brings together the concepts of epigenetics and gene expression,” explained Adrien Leger, PhD, Principal Research Scientist...

    Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
    by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...
