  • Postdoctoral Fellow: Algorithms for Long Read Transcript Quantification

Long read sequencing has the promise to overcome some of the key limitations of short read sequencing technologies. Among others, long read sequencing allows the quantification of full length transcripts and enables direct RNA sequencing without amplification. As the technology is still in an early phase, there are only few algorithms available to study long read transcriptomics data. The group of Jonathan Göke is searching for a postdoctoral fellow to develop algorithms for high throughput, long read transcriptomics data, and to lead a project on transcriptional diversity in cancer.

    Benefits:

The Genome Institute of Singapore offers a competitive salary and a complete benefits package that ensures a very high living standard in one of the most modern cities in the world.

    Requirements:

    • PhD in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Statistics, Genomics, or a related discipline.
    • Good understanding of probability and statistics, strong programming skills, and experience in one or more of the following areas: algorithms development, transcriptome analysis, single cell genomics, cancer genomics, machine learning.
    • Publication record with a first author publication
    • Excellent academic grades and very good communication skills in written and spoken English

About the Genome Institute of Singapore

The Genome Institute of Singapore (GIS, A*STAR) is the national flagship program for genomic science in Singapore. GIS hosts the largest collection of sequencing machines in Singapore, it has a compute cluster with more than 6,000 CPUs and more than 3 PB storage capacity, and a direct high-speed connection to the National Supercomputing Center Singapore. More than 30 computational and experimental research groups work at GIS. You can find out more about the Genome Institute of Singapore online: http://www.gis.a-star.edu.sg/

    Why Singapore?

Singapore is a city-state with one of the highest standards of living in the world seeking to become an international hub for the biomedical sciences. Singapore is a vibrant, tropical city, with rich Asian heritage and modern style of living, an ideal gateway to explore Asia, providing a unique experience and an excellent quality of life.

    Strategies for Sequencing Challenging Samples
    by seqadmin

Despite advancements in sequencing platforms and related sample preparation technologies, certain sample types continue to present significant challenges that can compromise sequencing results. Pedro Echave, Senior Manager of the Global Business Segment at Revvity, explained that the success of a sequencing experiment ultimately depends on the amount and integrity of the nucleic acid template (RNA or DNA) obtained from a sample. “The better the quality of the nucleic acid isolated...
