Unhappy Proper way to prepare 5M Betaine monohydrate without oxidation?

Hello,

One of our buffers uses a stock of 5M betaine in which my lab prepares from dried betaine monohydrate. The buffer contains betaine, 10mm Tris-HCl, Tween 20, and water. We've tried DEPC water and Milli-Q water, but for whatever reason, our oxidation scores keep coming back bad.

When we use pre-made 5M betaine (like from Affymetrix), the oxidation scores look great!

Can anyone provide some suggestions on the proper procedure for preparing non-oxidized 5M betaine?

Default

Currently, we put the betaine under heat until it goes into solution with stirring.
