Life Sciences Software Engineer – 3 Year Fixed Term

We are seeking an experienced computational biologist to work on a range of short-term and long-term projects for the Hartree Centre. As part of the Scientific Computing Department at STFC, the Hartree Centre was funded through the UK e-Leadership council to apply high performance computing to industrial applications. Projects will be in areas such as processing of omics data, network analysis and data mining.
You will have an aptitude for computational biology and high performance computing. A background in systems biology, bioinformatics or other computational biology would be suitable. Other scientific backgrounds may also be suitable, if you can demonstrate a strong interest in life sciences. The Hartree Centre specialises in advanced computing techniques, including HPC, and, while support from other members of the department is available, you should have a basic knowledge of software engineering, performance tuning, and the use of clusters or supercomputers.
You will need to work on diverse projects, so an ability to have informed discussions with different scientists from industry and academia is essential. The post is in the Computational Biology group of Martyn Winn, and you will work closely with other group members as well as the wider department.
