  • Service contract costs

Has anyone bought a service contract on either Miseq or Hiseq1000 yet? If so, what was the cost? I have projected the usual 10% of acquisition cost.
    Thanks for any info.

    Hi Hilary,

Our service contract for the MiSeq costs ~$15K/year if I remember correctly.

We're still within our first year of coverage, but our anniversary date is in April so I know we're planning now to make sure we remain covered.

Given all the problems we had with the MiSeq, combined with the RTA issue and now the bad kits, it's well worth it our minds.

Yup. If you have more questions about it, we can talk directly over email.

UConn sent its HiSeq to Perkin Elmer so I have no information on that system.

Would it not be best to have this conversation privately with the sales person

With software maintenance contracts costs are standard but with hardware maintenance contracts several "other" factors may come into play.

For those of you that have purchased a SC with Illumina, did you negoitiate a multiyear deal (with an associated discount)? And if so, does illumina follow the industry standard of permitting one to committ to the multiyear contract, but pay year-by-year?

            Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
            by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...

            Strategies for Sequencing Challenging Samples
            by seqadmin

Despite advancements in sequencing platforms and related sample preparation technologies, certain sample types continue to present significant challenges that can compromise sequencing results. Pedro Echave, Senior Manager of the Global Business Segment at Revvity, explained that the success of a sequencing experiment ultimately depends on the amount and integrity of the nucleic acid template (RNA or DNA) obtained from a sample. “The better the quality of the nucleic acid isolated...
