De novo Assembly of a 40 Mb Eukaryotic Genome from Short Sequence Reads: Sordaria macrospora, a Model Organism for Fungal Morphogenesis Used Velvet to assemble from mostly Illumina Solexa data plus a bit of 454 to strengthen contig evidence and a tiny bit of Sanger sequencing. However, they claim very similar results possible without the Sanger data. |
