  • Postdoc position in bioinformatics, Freiburg, Germany

MeInBio is a newly established research training group at the University of Freiburg and the Max Planck Institute of Immunobiology and Epigenetics Freiburg. It aims at a dual education in bioinformatics and wet laboratory methods to explore the spatio-temporal dynamics of gene regulation using high-throughput and high-resolution methods.
For the start in September 2017, MeInBio is now offering for 3 years

    1 Postdoc position

The postdoc will work in the group of Prof. Rolf Backofen, chair of bioinformatics, Albert-Ludwigs-University Freiburg.

Research will include the development of visualization approaches for detecting differentiation pathways of single cell RNA-seq sequencing data. The postdoc will work closely together with the colleagues who generate single cell sequencing data in the lab.

The Postdoc is expected to train MeInBio biologists to perform their own bioinformatics analyses and to foster bioinformatics technology transfer among the participating groups.

    We offer
    • an exciting research project in single cell RNA-seq data analysis with excellent publication and further career prospects
    • close collaboration with several life science groups with the potential of a multitude of co-author publications in addition to her/his own research project
    • participation in all courses that are offered within the MeInBio research training group
    • Additional “soft skills” courses and gatherings of all research training group members for scientific exchange

    Candidates should
    • be trained in NGS analysis
    • Have an excellent PhD and publication record in informatics or bioinformatics
    • Have a strong affection to acquire also biological knowledge and work together with life scientists
    • Be fluent in written and spoken English

For further information on the research training group and the project please refer to

Essential Discoveries and Tools in Epitranscriptomics
    by seqadmin

The field of epigenetics has traditionally concentrated more on DNA and how changes like methylation and phosphorylation of histones impact gene expression and regulation. However, our increased understanding of RNA modifications and their importance in cellular processes has led to a rise in epitranscriptomics research. “Epitranscriptomics brings together the concepts of epigenetics and gene expression,” explained Adrien Leger, PhD, Principal Research Scientist...

    Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
    by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...
