  • Scientific Software Developer, Genomic Informatics

    Overview

Do you have a passion for creating exceptional scientific software? Do you know what it takes to scale from a workstation to a data center and everything in between? Do you believe that good design and user experience can help accelerate scientific discovery?

If so, we'd love to talk to you! Lab7 is looking for a few good scientific software developers to join us as we create the next generation of genomic informatics systems.

As part of our core development team, you will work with our developers, scientists, and UX team to design and implement our genomic informatics platform.

    Skills
    • Experience developing scientific software
    • Strong background in data structures and algorithms, including graph theory, search algorithms, and/or computer graphics
    • High performance computing experience, specifically developing software for use in cluster, grid, or cloud environments
    • Experience developing browser-based, rich-client applications is a plus
    • Familiarity with bioinformatics, especially next generation sequencing, is a plus

    Technologies
    • Must be very comfortable with C, C++, and Python
    • Experience with HTML5, CSS, JavaScript (jQuery), JSON, and RESTful APIs
    • Experience with SQL and some familiarity with NoSQL-style document stores (e.g., MongoDB)
    • Functional programming experience is a plus (LISP, Haskell, Erlang, etc)
    • A basic background in computer graphics is a plus

    Education and Experience
    • 5+ years developing scientific software
    • At least one degree (B.S., M.S., or Ph.D.) in Computer Science or comparable experience

If you feel you have a solid background for this position but lack some specifics listed above, we'd still like to hear from you. In your cover letter, let us know what experience you have that you can leverage for this position.

    Salary and Benefits
    • Salary based on experience and can be a combination of equity and pay
    • Full medical/dental/vision benefits available for salaried employees
    • Independent contractors are welcome (no recruiters, please)

Note that we are a startup. Apply with realistic expectations. We know this position could easily command a high rate, but we can't do anything crazy just yet.
