I was wondering if anyone has used the covaris for a shearing range of 2-5kb for DNA and what were your results. I need this size range to start a protocol and want to know if the machine has the capabilities to perform this.

Yes, it works reasonably well if you have sufficient starting material. The range of fragments is relatively wide at large size targets, so you will lose a reasonable amount of your DNA. Check their webpage for protocols to shear DNA to 5kb. They also produce special tubes for various kb size ranges.
