  • Scientist – Bioinformatics - Munich, Germany

Exosome Diagnostics is an early stage company commercializing minimally invasive molecular diagnostics in blood and urine. The company's core technology is a proprietary diagnostic platform based on the discovery that circulating microvesicles called exosomes contain unique genetic markers.

We are currently seeking an experienced Bioinformatics Scientist for our new German site, in the IZB in Martinsried outside Munich. This position will be responsible for providing key technical, statistical and intellectual input into the analysis of sequencing and array data of urine- and blood-based exosome RNA from patients with cancer, metabolic and other diseases.

Candidates must be experienced in the field of next generation sequencing data analysis and preferably also microarray data analysis. We expect that you will have a strong background in molecular biology or similar, as well as bioinformatics or statistics.

    Key responsibilities include:
    • Analyze Next Gen Sequence data from exosome RNA derived from clinical samples.
    • Analyze microarray data from exosome RNA derived from clinical samples.
    • Deriving genetic signatures and biomarkers and evaluate their statistical validity.
    • Develop new algorithms and tools or modify existing ones to fit the needs for exosome RNA analysis.
    • Assist in the design of key experiments and companywide project plans to advance the development and understanding of the molecular biology of exosomes.
    • Provide assistance and training when required to aid the development of other team members.
    • Contribute data and analysis to intellectual property filings and peer reviewed publications.
    • Present thoughtful analysis and interact with the rest of the company’s scientific staff and key stake holders, including our collaborator network of world class hospitals and universities.

    We expect that you:
    • Have a several years experience from academia and/or industry.
    • Are experienced in the analysis and handling of NGS data.
    • Are proficient in the use of bioinformatics tools and are experienced in the programming skills needed for the job.
    • Have a scientific publication record and are up to date on current scientific literature in the field.
    • Can work independently and are deadline focused.
    • Are disciplined and organized and understand the importance of documenting your work.
    • Have a strong sense of integrity.
    • Enjoy a culture where strong work ethics are combined with good humor.

Essential Discoveries and Tools in Epitranscriptomics
    by seqadmin

The field of epigenetics has traditionally concentrated more on DNA and how changes like methylation and phosphorylation of histones impact gene expression and regulation. However, our increased understanding of RNA modifications and their importance in cellular processes has led to a rise in epitranscriptomics research. “Epitranscriptomics brings together the concepts of epigenetics and gene expression,” explained Adrien Leger, PhD, Principal Research Scientist...

    Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
    by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...
