About the New York Genome Center
The New York Genome Center (NYGC) is an independent, non-profit organization that leverages the collaborative resources of leading academic medical centers, research universities, and commercial organizations. Our vision is to transform medical research and clinical care in New York and beyond through the creation of one of the largest genomics facilities in North America, integrating sequencing, bioinformatics, and data management, as well as performing cutting-edge genomics research.

Position Description:
The Laboratory Supervisor is responsible for implementing and ensuring quality standards in a rapidly growing next-generation sequencing facility. This includes supervising staff, implementing and updating of standard operating procedures and all associated record keeping. The Lab Supervisor will troubleshoot and optimize new and existing protocols, ensure effective operation of all laboratory equipment, and ensure that all regulatory requirements are adhered to.

Job responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
• Oversee production lab teams and ensure that quality standards are met;
• Oversee projects as they move through the production lab to ensure timely completion;
• Optimize protocols as needed to ensure high quality data;
• Provide guidance and mentorship to Lab staff;
• Optimize efficiency of current lab processes to increase the throughput of the lab;
• Support Lab with sample Processing when needed;
• Train employees on sequencing, library prep, and protocol optimization;
• Work with lab staff and project management to troubleshoot issues as they arise;
• Interview new staff as needed;
• Author, edit and review Standard Operating Procedures;
• Help with the development and implementation of a laboratory inventory system;
• Support QC activities for all sequencing related reagents;
• Evaluate and purchase new equipment, as needed;
• Fill in for Lab Manager, as needed;
• Help with lab audits in production, as well as CLIA;
• Work with Project Management to ensure timely project completion;
• Work with EHS officer to ensure staff safety;
• Work with other teams and departments to ensure success of the New York Genome Center.

Position Requirements:
BS in scientific discipline required;
• 6-8 years in a scientific setting required, with personnel managerial experience in a next-generation sequencing lab a must;
• 4+ years experience with high throughput sequencing on Illumina instruments;
• Demonstrated skill in troubleshooting techniques, interpreting run analysis data, run quality assessment, and routine machine maintenance and repair;
• Excellent communication skills, detail orientation, initiative, willingness to “roll up sleeves” and do the work required for success;
• Experience in a CLIA lab for sequencing and molecular testing is a plus.
