Default BioBuilds 2014.11 Open Source Distribution Released by Lab7

As some of you know, at Lab7 we maintain a collection of pre-built binaries for many popular bioinformatics tools. Today, we posted the second BioBuilds release (BioBuilds-2014.11), available on biobuilds.org. This release includes many more tools than the last and also adds support for Red Hat and Ubuntu optimized for POWER8, in addition to RHEL/Centos, Debian/Ubuntu, and OS X on x86.

Sharing the binaries is one way that we can give back to the community (and maybe we've patched some Makefiles along the way... ). We really appreciate all the work that's gone into these tools and want to make sure Open Source tools remain readily accessible as bioinformatics expands beyond research environments and into applied markets.

If you're tired of maintaining your own builds or work in a production/clinical environment where a single source for tools helps with compliance, please check out BioBuilds.

We're happy to add more tools to the package, licenses permitting. Email us directly (support@lab7.io) or respond to this thread with requests and comments.

Also, if you happen to be at Supercomputing 2014 this week, stop by the IBM or Dell booths if you'd like to learn more about BioBuilds.
