  • Postdoc Position: Molecular Biology of CRISPR-Cas9 and Long Noncoding RNAs

Are you a molecular biologist who loves the challenge of developing new methods?

Then the “Genomics of Long Non-Coding RNAs in Disease” Laboratory (GOLD Lab) has an opportunity for you!

The Project: Understanding how long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) functions are encoded in their sequence is a great challenge in biology. Our goal is to discover, classify and characterise lncRNA functional elements by means of an integrative bioinformatic / experimental approach. You will lead an experimental project to develop novel methods, based on CRISPR-Cas9, to dissect lncRNA functionality. Work will benefit from close collaboration with our team of experimentalists and computer scientists with wide experience in genome engineering.

The Group: We are a diverse and interdisciplinary team of researchers with a passion for lncRNA research. We foster an open and collaborative working environment. Our work is funded by the Swiss National Center for Competence in Research (NCCR) “RNA & Disease” (nccr-rna-and-disease.ch) project, providing numerous links with other RNA researchers. We also participate in GENCODE and the International Cancer Genome Consortium (ICGC). We enjoy clinical collaborations at the University Hospital of Bern. For more information about us see gold-lab.org and twitter.com/goldlab_bern.

The Person: We seek a dedicated and dynamic colleague to join our team. The project will be strongly focused on developing new CRISPR-Cas9 techniques, so you should have solid experience in some of: molecular biology, RNA biology, method development, innovative thinking. CRISPR-Cas9 experience is helpful but not strictly necessary.

Details: Ideal start date will be Q1 of 2019. Project is fully funded for at least 3 years. Salary is according to (generous) University of Bern scales.
The City: Bern, the capital of Switzerland, is well connected at the heart of Europe, has a vibrant international community, numerous outdoors and cultural activities, and ranks among the best cities worldwide for quality of life (https://tinyurl.com/y9vrtb7d).

    Recent publications:
Esposito et al Cancer Cell. 2019 Feb 14. pii: S1535-6108(19)30053-4.
    Carlevaro-Fita et al. Genome Res. 2019 Feb;29(2):208-222.
    Uszczynska-Ratajczak B et al. Nat Rev Genet. 2018 Sep;19(9):535-548. doi: 10.1038/s41576-018-0017-y.
Lagarde J et al. Nat Genet. 2017 Dec;49(12):1731-1740. doi: 10.1038/ng.3988.

To apply: Please send a brief email explaining how you fit the project description, publications list, and CV to rory.johnson[at]dbmr.unibe.ch with subject title: “Job application SNF Postdoc”. Informal enquiries are also welcome. The position will be advertised until filled, and latest updates on the job availability will be posted at www.gold-lab.org/we-are-hiring, so please check before applying. 05/03/2019

    Hello,
I've sent my CV to rory.johnson[at]dbmr.unibe.ch last month and didn't get an answer. Is it a valid offer still? I'm now working part-time at Georgetown University as a senior lab assistant in Molecular Biology department. But I'm ready to move to Bern.
Are you also offering funding for PhDs?
    Thanks.
