Default Positions in Computational Biology, University of Cambridge, UK

We have vacancies for two computational biologists/bioinformaticians in the Department of Plant Sciences in Cambridge. Please see the advertisements below:

***********
Job Vacancy 1
***********
SENIOR RESEARCH ASSOCIATE: COMPUTATIONAL AND BIOINFORMATIC APPROACHES IN PLANTS
Department of Plant Sciences
Salary: 36,715-46,510 pa
Limit of Tenure applies*
The Department of Plant Sciences seeks a Senior Research Associate to work with Professor David Baulcombe.
The successful candidate will establish research projects involving computational and bioinformatic approaches in plants. There is a particular interest in developing methods for analysis of large databases of siRNAs and miRNAs in Arabidopsis, Chlamydomonas, tomato and other plants, and for modelling the behaviour of small RNA systems and their effect on gene silencing at the RNA and DNA level.
The post-holder will also be expected to supervise Postdoctoral Research Associates funded by various grants working on computational aspects of RNA silencing. They will also be expected to apply jointly with Professor Baulcombe and other members of Plant Sciences for external funding to support additional related projects.
Further particulars are available on the Department website http://www.plantsci.cam.ac.uk/index.html
To apply, please send a CV, a statement of current and proposed research, the names and addresses of 3 referees, and a Chris/6 cover sheet(parts I and III only) - http://www.admin.cam.ac.uk/offices/hr/forms/chris6/- to Ombretta Orsini, Head of Department's Secretary, Department of Plant Sciences, Downing Street, Cambridge, CB2 3EA, or email oo203@cam.ac.uk
* Limit of tenure: Funding is available for 2 years in the first instance, with the possibility of an extension

RESEARCH ASSOCIATE IN BIOINFORMATICS
Department of Plant Sciences
Salary: 27,319-35,646 pa
Limit of Tenure applies*
Professor Baulcombe's laboratory is at the forefront of research into small RNAs and their role in regulation and development. His group is generating a wealth of data using high throughput sequencing, as well as using genetic and cell biology approaches. There is a particular interest in developing methods for the analysis of large databases of siRNAs and miRNAs in Arabidopsis, Chlamydomonas, tomato and other plants, and for modelling the behaviour of small RNA systems and their effect on gene silencing at the RNA and DNA level.
Within the laboratory there is a computational biology group that works closely with experimentalists in the group. We are looking for a talented individual with quantitative and computational skills to make advances in biology. Skills in one or more of the following areas would be an advantage: computer programming (R, Perl), statistics, computational biology, bioinformatics. A real interest in biology is essential.
You should have a higher degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, with strong quantitative and/or programming skills and a good knowledge of biology.
For further particulars please see the Department website at http://www.plantsci.cam.ac.uk/index.html or contact Dr Krys Kelly (email: kak28@cam.ac.uk; tel: 01223 748969)
To apply, please send a covering letter, CV, a Chris/6 cover sheet (parts I and III only) - http://www.admin.cam.ac.uk/offices/hr/forms/chris6/ - and the names and contact details (including email addresses) of 3 referees to Ombretta Orsini, Head of Department's Secretary, Department of Plant Sciences, Downing Street, Cambridge, CB2 3EA or email: 00203@cam.ac.uk
* Limit of tenure: Funds are available for two years in the first instance
