  • Now possible to edit your own usertitle!

Many people have given me the feedback that they hate the default usertitles that vBulletin gives users as they get more posts ("Junior Member", "Member", etc.).

I totally agree, so I've just turned on the ability to edit your own usertitle. To do this, head to your user profile and scroll down a bit to "Custom User Title". Right now, it's only available after you have had a small number of successful posts (that make it past the spam filter). If that seems to work out I'll open it up to everyone...but that's a good excuse to make your first post.

Depending on how this goes I would like open up avatars and add more user profile fields (institution, user blogs, etc).

    Go nuts.

It might be useful to have some suggestion for how to usefully use this. Having just tried out the option you only have 22 characters which isn't enough to put your full affiliation, but would be enough to put your real name (if you choose to).

Thanks Simon. It should be 25 characters, I'll double check, and maybe up it to 30.

The intent is to let a bit more personality through for users, but at their discretion. Some may want their real name, or their institute, or the tools they wrote...others may want something snarky. At least for that field, it's not my intent to impose a structure on it, but we'll see if that works. It's trivial to easily add specific fields like institution.

Essential Discoveries and Tools in Epitranscriptomics
        by seqadmin

The field of epigenetics has traditionally concentrated more on DNA and how changes like methylation and phosphorylation of histones impact gene expression and regulation. However, our increased understanding of RNA modifications and their importance in cellular processes has led to a rise in epitranscriptomics research. “Epitranscriptomics brings together the concepts of epigenetics and gene expression,” explained Adrien Leger, PhD, Principal Research Scientist...

        Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
        by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...
