Default How to install NCBI BLAST 2.2.27+ on mac OS X 10.8.1

Dear all,

I am trying to install the latest BLAST+ 2.2.27+ following the instruction on the following page which is provided from NCBI :

However, i am now completely lost, as they mention on the page that:

To do BLAST searches on platforms lacking precompiled blast+ package will require compiling the BLAST source code. The source code file, "ncbi-blast-#.#.#+-src" in either zip or gziped tar format, is available from the same ftp directory as blast+ packages. Questions and feedbacks on source code compilation should be addressed to:

This is the first time for me to deal with local BLAST, and i know that my system is lacking the precompiled blast+. I want to know how to compile the BLAST+ and then configure the BLAST. When i try to configure it as it is mentioned on the page above, all the time i receive error messages such as: No such file or directory, or command not found.

Thanks very much.

Unless you have a strong reason to do so, don't bother compiling BLAST+ yourself - just use the pre-compiled binaries from the NCBI. They work fine and it is far easier - just decompress the tar-ball, and move/copy the binaries to somewhere on your path:
