    National Jewish Health, located in Denver, Colorado has an opportunity for a Bioinformatics Analyst II (Genetics/Genomics). Provide advanced bioinformatics support to the Center for Genes, Environment, and Health. Participate in programming and data processing to support the analysis of next generation sequencing data (whole
genome sequencing, RNAseq, ChIPseq, Methylseq, FAIREseq, targeted resequencing), microarray (mRNA,
miRNA, methylation, SNPs),, , and analysis of other data generated by projects aimed at understanding the genetic characteristics of disease.Interact with multi-disciplinary team to design and develop analysis strategies for major projects. Must have prior next-generation sequencing experience and demonstrate the ability to think critically about both data analysis and data interpretation.

    Knowledge and Skills
    Proven experience using bioinformatics to analyze high-throughput genomic data. Experience in high-throughput data analysis and familiarity with widely used genomic databases and software. Experience in utility programming (C Shell, Perl, BioPerl, JAVA, R, and other languages) in a Linux environment, as well as designing, developing, and programming databases (Oracle, MySQL). Must be able to use independent judgment and advanced problem solving. Must have excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written skills.

    Education
    Bachelor of Science degree in computer science and/or life sciences required. Masters of Science degree or PhD in Bioinformatics, computer science and/or life sciences preferred.

    Experience
    A minimum of (3) three years recent and related experience is required.

    Required skills and qualifications:

    - General shell scripting knowledge and experience working in UNIX and LINUX environments, particularly with large text files and genomic information
    - Demonstrated knowledge and programming experience in VB, .NET, PERL, C++, and/or Java, and willing to pick up new programming languages as necessary.
    - Experience working and programming in Windows and Linux environments
    - Experience creating and maintaining in-house SQL relational databases, and working with and extracting information from public databases such as NCBI and UCSC genome databases
    - Familiarity and working knowledge with standard bioinformatics tools, packages, algorithms, and databases
    - Familiarity with statistical analysis methods and tools for bioinformatics
    - Experience in a wet lab environment is a plus
    - Experience working with and analyzing large-scale biological datasets including next generation sequencing data
    - Strong interest and motivation to patent and publish findings
    - Passion to work in an environment where discoveries need to get translated into molecular diagnostics tests
    - Excellent team playing and communications skills
    - Ability to deliver results in defined time frames and to manage and organize multiple priorities
