Default In Sequence: ABI, Illumina Upgrade Their Sequencers As Sequencing Demand Accelerates

Syndicated from In Sequence RSS Feed

Illumina in February began shipping the Genome Analyzer II, an upgrade that triples output from 1 to 3 gigabases per run, and two months later began selling a paired-end module for the sequencer. Meanwhile, ABI next month plans to start shipping an upgraded version of its SOLiD platform that will double its output from 3 to 6 gigabases per run and reduce the run time.
