    Degree and area of specialization:
    Masters in Bioinformatics/Computational Biology or a related field, including biological sciences, statistics, or computer science is required, Ph.D. preferred.

    Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
    Minimum of five years of bioinformatics experience, including graduate thesis work and/or professional experience. Working knowledge of informatics computing, scripting languages, and NextGen sequencing analysis applications. Significant practical experience in the analysis of high throughput nucleic acid sequence data. Applicable areas include genome assembly, SNP detection, ChIP-seq, MeDIP-seq, RIP-seq analyses, and expression profiling using RNA-seq. The ability to interact positively with a diverse group of researchers and their research. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to stay current on new biological and bioinformatics methodologies.

    Principal duties:
    The University of Wisconsin Biotechnology Center (UWBC) is a synergistic blend of core service facilities, research and outreach activities. Currently the UWBC has seven fee-for-service core facilities that provide biotechnological services to both academic and non-academic investigators. We are seeking a highly self-motivated individual to work with BRC clients to provide analysis and consultation for their projects. It is essential that this individual is capable of working independently and possesses the ability to effectively troubleshoot and develop custom scripts and workflows. The individual will be expected to select or develop the most appropriate methodologies for the clients as well as effectively present their results.

    55% Work with clients and DNA Sequencing Facility staff, through the direction of the BRC Facility Director, to provide timely, accurate, and beneficial bioinformatics services. Derive biologically and statistically meaningful results and effectively communicate this in a professional manner. This will require effective communication and collaboration with these individuals and their research staff, which may include undergraduate, graduate or post-doctoral researchers.

    20% Assist the Facility Director with investigating and developing new processes and techniques to improve services within the Facility. Participate in the design and development of data repositories and custom software. This will require effective communication with the Facility Director, UWBC IT and Core Facility staff as well as end-users.

    15% Monitor the activity of the BRC computer lab, ensuring that clients data analysis can proceed at optimal levels. Oversee the BRC computer lab, assisting users with questions and directing them to the appropriate programs and datasets.

    5% Assist the Facility Director in the determination of appropriate charges for BRC services, managing the facility budget and preparing annual facility reports.

    5% Other Duties as assigned.
