Default Postdoctoral Fellowship at Johns Hopkins Next-Generation Sequencing Center

This position offers an exciting opportunity to join a newly established multidisciplinary research team inside the Next Generation Sequencing Center in the Department of Oncology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.

The primary focus will be the analysis of next generation sequencing data produced by multiple applications on two Applied Biosystems SOLiD sequencing instruments. The instruments are part of a core resource serving the cancer center and the entire university; projects are expected to be innovative and challenging and will come from many different areas.

The appointee will have a PhD in genome biology, computer science or bioinformatics and ideally will be familiar with and have expertise in the management and analysis of large-scale genomics datasets, in particular sequencing data. Basic UNIX/Linux operating system skills are essential and a strong background in at least one scripting or programming language (e.g. C++, R, Perl or Python) is required.

The successful candidate will join the bioinformatics and biostatistics team within the group, and will support molecular and functional genetics research from all over campus as well as undertake independent research that is focused on critical areas of complex-trait genomic analysis from both a biological and a statistical/algorithmic perspective. This post will provide excellent experience in this rapidly developing field for individuals looking to advance towards an independent research career.

Please contact Sarah Wheelan (swheelan *AT* jhmi**DOT* edu) with questions or to apply.
