Hi SEQanswers,
First, let me apologize if this is not the right avenue to make this request. I am the author of pBWA - a parallel implementation of a Burrows-Wheeler transform based short read aligner. I originally wrote the software for my master's thesis and didn't really intend for it to (or image it actually would) become popular... however, I am consistently getting requests to update, patch, etc.
It was recently suggested to me that I could "release" the software to the open source community, even though the code is freely available, it is a gesture that could be made.
I guess my question is, does anyone know of any avenues for which I can pursue this? Is there a community anyone knows of that would be willing to take ownership for the software & keep it up to date? Someone has generously hosted the software on their github account, so it's a start.
Also - I am wondering if it is advisable for me to publish this before, or after releasing the software? I have just finished writing a journal article and will be submitting it towards peer review shortly.
Thanks for your time!
Darren
