  • SENIOR BIOINFORMATICS SPECALIST - Tufts Technology Services

Reporting directly to the Director of Research and Geospatial Technology Services (RGTS), the Senior Bioinformatics Specialist provides faculty and student support for bioinformatics, high-performance computing (HPC) and visualization services that are an important part of our research technology service portfolio. Key responsibilities include: participating in the planning process for developing, managing, and supporting the core bioinformatics, HPC and visualization services that support research activities at Tufts University, providing technical support and training, providing consulting services to faculty, post-docs, and students from a wide range of academic backgrounds ranging from biology to health sciences, and from engineering to nutrition and serving as liaison with other TTS directorates that participate to the successful delivery of our services to the Tufts community. This is a highly technical position that requires a strong research background in biomedical and/or quantitative science, including a high level of expertise with bioinformatics algorithms, databases, and analyses with a focus on next-generation sequencing to enable the Tufts community to utilize research technology services to achieve their academic and research goals. Project management, data management and the ability to coordinate and communicate between programmers and wet-lab scientists is critical for success.

Essential Discoveries and Tools in Epitranscriptomics
    by seqadmin

The field of epigenetics has traditionally concentrated more on DNA and how changes like methylation and phosphorylation of histones impact gene expression and regulation. However, our increased understanding of RNA modifications and their importance in cellular processes has led to a rise in epitranscriptomics research. “Epitranscriptomics brings together the concepts of epigenetics and gene expression,” explained Adrien Leger, PhD, Principal Research Scientist...

    Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
    by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...
