  • Bioinformatician and Computational Biologist at Harvard Medical School

    DESCRIPTION: Bioinformatician position is currently available in Dr. Bhasin Systems Biomedicine laboratory (bhasinlab.org) at BETH ISRAEL DEACONESS MEDICAL CENTER / HARVARD MEDICAL SCHOOL, Boston MA. Bioinformatician will be responsible for the development and maintenance of workflows/algorithms for analysis of genomics, proteomics, next-generation sequencing and metabolomics data. He will also be responsible for developing solutions for integrated and systems biology analysis of multi-dimensional omics data. She or he must have strong technical skills while working independently on development or data analysis projects. Prior experience in handing and analysis of genome level data is extremely helpful.

    Characteristic Duties::

    To develop and maintain analysis pipelines for microarray, proteomics and next-generation sequencing data. • Apply sequence analysis methods, clustering algorithms, functional and statistical analysis methods on omics data. • To develop analytical workflows for identifying predictive biomarkers from genome level data using novel feature selection and classifier training algorithms. • Develop innovative solutions for integrated analysis multi-dimensional omics datasets including SNP Profiling, ChipSEQ, Transcriptome, Epigenome, and Proteome. • Manage genomics, proteomics and sequencing data analysis, visualization, interpretation, and presentation.

    Qualifications: BS in computer science, computer engineering, bioinformatics or related discipline; advanced degree (MS, PhD) a strong plus. • Excellent programming skills and experience in C/ C++, Java, Perl, Python, SAS, MATLAB, and R. • The candidate should have 1-3 years experience in handing and analysis of genome level data. • Strong background in algorithms and statistics, data management and mining, and machine learning. • Extraordinary oral and written communication skills • Ability to work in a fast-paced and results-oriented environment
    Please send a CV, a brief description of previous research and the names of three references to the address below. mbhasin at bidmc.harvard.edu

    Essential Discoveries and Tools in Epitranscriptomics
    by seqadmin

    The field of epigenetics has traditionally concentrated more on DNA and how changes like methylation and phosphorylation of histones impact gene expression and regulation. However, our increased understanding of RNA modifications and their importance in cellular processes has led to a rise in epitranscriptomics research. “Epitranscriptomics brings together the concepts of epigenetics and gene expression,” explained Adrien Leger, PhD, Principal Research Scientist on Modified Bases...

    Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
    by seqadmin

    Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...
