Hey,
I recently has a temp position at a biotech company where I did sequencing using an ABI 3130xl. I've been looking for a job doing sequencing and, unsurprisingly, generally only see positions looking for experience with NextGen sequencing. Based on what I've found, it seems that my experience doesn't qualify as NextGen, but I thought I'd ask the experts just to be sure (thanks everyone).

The 3130xl is not considered 2nd-/next-generation.

Depending on what part of the workflow you participated in (sample prep, instrument, analysis), you may have some relevant experience. Particularly, if you did a fair amount of the up front molecular biology, you likely have many of the skills necessary to make a next gen library.
