Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Bioinformatics

The Department of Plant Sciences is seeking to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Assistant. This is a 42 month project financed by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. This grant is held by Dr Steven Kelly and the work is to be conducted in his lab in the Department of Plant Sciences, Oxford. The responsibilities of the post-holder will be to use bioinformatic, computational and modelling approaches to assess transgenic rice lines and develop novel analysis methods to use this data to help direct the engineering strategy for introducing C4 photosynthesis into rice.
The postholder should have: Extensive experience in computational or statistical analysis of biological data. Expert knowledge of one or more scripting or programming languages (e.g. Perl, Python, Ruby, C++ or Java etc.). High motivation with intellectual curiosity and rigour. A PhD and publication record in a relevant area (e.g. bioinformatics, computational biology, evolutionary biology, computational modelling etc). Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks. Ability to manage the day-to-day running of a research project, including supervision of research students (undergraduate or postgraduate). Excellent oral and written communication skills, including ability to present research at national and international symposia. Ability to keep detailed lab book records of experiments and analyses. Experience in the analysis of transcriptome sequence data. Experience in the analysis of high-throughput sequence data. Experience in constructing bioinformatic data analysis pipelines. Experience in gene regulatory network reconstruction and analysis.
