  • Bioinformatics Scientist - Ingenuity Systems

    POSITION SUMMARY

    The Bioinformatics Scientist is a core member of the Ingenuity Variant Analysis™ product team and plays a key role in designing and prototyping software and content components to support Next Generation Sequence (NGS) analysis workflows. This role is expected to contribute to the definition and design of product features that deliver Ingenuity’s industry-leading biomedical knowledge to biomedical researchers who need to interpret the biological significance of NGS data. We’re seeking an experienced genomic scientist with strong analytical skills.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Essential Functions:
    • Prototype next generation sequence analysis features
    • Perform scientific analysis of human sequence data

    Marginal Functions:
    • Participate in product definition and ideation
    • Present scientific applications and analyses leveraging the Ingenuity Variant Analysis™ system in scientific conferences and meetings.
    • Support sales, field application specialist, customer support and marketing teams leveraging technical and scientific experience.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
    • Knowledge of commonly-used methods used to analyze human genomic data
    • Develops and applies alignment, search, comparison, annotation, and visualization tools to analyze human sequence data
    • Self-starter who works effectively collaboratively, high-energy agile development environment
    • Strong visual, verbal, and written communication skills
    • Ability to evaluate and select among existing methodologies and tools, and where necessary develop new approaches, to drive design processes and communicate rationales

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
    • Scientific publication or example materials demonstrating genome analysis experience

    EXPERIENCE
    Minimum
    • Demonstrated experience analyzing human genomic data (e.g. SNP genotypes, sequence, microarray gene expression, GWAS, proteomics)
    • Deep understanding of molecular and cellular biology concepts, including genetics
    • Strong scripting skills (e.g. Python, PERL) on Unix
    • Eagerness to advance biomedical discovery
    • Working knowledge of statistics

    Preferred
    • Experience with genome data analysis bioinformatics tools and scientific data visualization applications applied to sequence analysis workflows (e.g. RNA-seq, DNA re-seq, Cancer deep sequencing, ChIP-seq)
    • Exome/amplicon analysis expertise including sequence alignment, comparative genomics, functional and structural variant discovery, and quality assessment
    • Proficiency with sequence assembly and search tools (e.g. Bowtie, BLAT)
    • Experience developing software applications or workflow automation
    • Competency with a statistical package (e.g. R or MATLAB)
    • Understanding of the drug discovery process
    • Experience working with product development teams and understanding and translating customer needs
    • Leadership skills including asking appropriate questions to drive decision making and persuasively conveying solutions to a broad range of stakeholders (product management, engineering, etc.)
    • Experience with biomedical ontologies
    • Knowledge of human computer interaction or related visualization science experience
    • Genetic data analysis experience as part of a clinical study with pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry collaborators

    EDUCATION
    Minimum
    • 2+ years experience analyzing human genomic data
    • Ph.D. in Genetics, Biology, Computational Biology, Biostatistics

    Preferred
    • 5+ years experience analyzing human genomic data
    • BS/MS in Computer Science, Physics, or Mathematics
