Position: Postdoctoral Fellow, Clinical Cancer Sequencing Benchmarking
Site: MaRS Centre, Toronto
Department: Informatics & Biocomputing
Reports To: Dr. Paul C. Boutros
Salary: Flexible based on experience
Hours: 35 Hrs/week
Status: Full-Time Contract, 1-3 years
Computational biology is driven by the development and application of improved tools and algorithms to difficult and important problems. But the comparison and optimization fo these tools is a critical and high-profile endeavour. The Boutros Lab research team at the Ontario Institute for Cancer Research specializes in this area, and is current leading multiple international benchmarking studies, including the ICGC-TCGA DREAM Somatic Mutation Calling Challenge (https://www.synapse.org/#!Synapse:syn312572). This work is of the highest possible impact to the community, and is being very favourably reviewed and supported by journals throughout the world.
There is now the opportunity for a post-doctoral associate to lead benchmarking studies in the area of Clinical Cancer Sequencing. This includes execution and implementation of international Challenges, coordination with the two major cancer-sequencing consortia (ICGC & TCGA) and down-stream analysis of results to identify areas of need and to develop enhanced machine-learning techniques. This position calls for an engaged, ambitious PDF and has a strong chance of providing the contacts and publications to serve as a springboard towards an independent position. We have access to cutting-edge genomic data, associated with rich clinical annotation and a state-of-the-art IT infrastructure. All that's missing is the right candidate.
Preferred Qualifications
* PhD in computational biology, engineering, mathematics, computer science or a related field
* Experience with next-generation sequencing data required
* Strong programming skills (C, R, perl) preferrably in a linux-environment
* Strong statistical background (e.g. Bayesian or survival techniques) is an asset
