  • Bioinformatics Position at Washington University

    Job Description
We have an immediate opening in the Center for Pharmacogenomics at Washington University in St. Louis for an informatician to study epigenomic abnormalities in cancer. Our team is conducting cutting-edge research developing new experimental and computational genomic tools to understand the nature of genome-wide DNA methylation abnormalities in cancer.

In this position, you will provide key support to the research team as well as engage in challenging and rewarding research projects of your own. Primary responsibilities will be to work closely with experimental biologists to develop new tools to visualize and analyze genomic methylation patterns. This will include integration of methylation, expression and other genomic datasets. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.

    Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree with emphasis in computer science, engineering, informatics or other related discipline. The applicant should have proficiency in C/C++ and a scripting language such as Perl or Python.

    Preferred Qualifications
Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong work ethic and demonstrated ability to work independently and interact as part of a team. Preferred qualifications include: experience with MySQL or R, additional experience in computational genomics or related biomedical research, familiarity with Next-Gen sequencing applications, and experience with large-scale expression or epigenetic datasets.

    Contact
Please send cover letter, CV and contact information for 3 references in PDF format to Dr. John Edwards ([email protected]).

Essential Discoveries and Tools in Epitranscriptomics
    by seqadmin

The field of epigenetics has traditionally concentrated more on DNA and how changes like methylation and phosphorylation of histones impact gene expression and regulation. However, our increased understanding of RNA modifications and their importance in cellular processes has led to a rise in epitranscriptomics research. “Epitranscriptomics brings together the concepts of epigenetics and gene expression,” explained Adrien Leger, PhD, Principal Research Scientist...
