    Status: Permanent, Full-time


    The Ontario Institute for Cancer Research (OICR) is seeking a Team Leader, Bioinformatics to lead and coordinate a team of computational biologists working on the CPC-GENE project. CPC-GENE is an International Cancer Genome Consortium (ICGC) project dedicated to whole genome-sequencing of 500 prostate cancers, along with matched normal samples, as well as methylome and transcriptome profiling. Each patient has rich clinical annotation and the ultimate goal is to create and validate a set of clinically-useful prognostic markers. This will include primary analysis of mRNA and DNA microarrays, analysis of second (ABI SOLiD and Illumina Hi-Seq) and third (PacBio) generation sequencing data. The position is located at OICR, which provides a highly collaborative environment of biologists, computer scientists, and statisticians focusing on similar problems. Analysis of these data will be performed on cutting-edge IT infrastructure including a multi-petabyte storage system and a 3,500-core compute farm.

    Responsibilities include:
    • Developing and leading a team of junior statisticians, bioinformaticians, and developers;
    • Interfacing and coordinating with genomic, clinical, and bioinformatic research groups;
    • Developing frameworks for analysis and integration of diverse –omic datasets;
    • Manuscript and grant-writing;
    • Statistical and bioinformatic analysis of –omic datasets.

    QUALIFICATIONS
    • A PhD in computational biology, engineering, mathematics, computer sciences or molecular biology with 3+ years experience in genomic computational biology;
    • A strong statistical background;
    • Expert-level skills in software and database programming (R, Perl, SQL);
    • Knowledge of biological sequence algorithmic and analysis tools;
    • Experience leading multi-person analysis teams strongly preferred;
    • Strong knowledge of molecular biology. Knowledge of cancer biology is an asset;
    • Team-player, interested in working in a fast-paced and highly collaborative environment with biologists, computer scientists, statisticians, and clinicians.
