Principal Applications Scientist - Oxford Nanopore Technologies, UK
We seek a senior level scientist who has pioneered new applications development on current next-generation sequencing platforms. This means both theoretical knowledge and practical experience of novel experimental design, appropriate sample prep methodologies (DNA isolation, fragmentation etc) and appropriate analysis leading to new ways of measuring biological phenomena.

Typically a geneticist or genomicist who has worked as part of a multi-disciplinary sequencing team encompassing the whole experimental cycle from sample collection through to high quality publication, the ideal candidate needs to be an innovative thought-leader and scientific risk taker, probably also having links to other key people in the field. He/she will also have done or supervised some bioinformatics work, or have links to clinical or translational environments.

The candidate needs to be able to communicate credibly with senior laboratory personnel at leading research institutes, about how a sequencer might fit into their current or future scientific environment. Yet they also need to be able to communicate effectively with ground-level scientists who will use the machine, and develop robust experimental protocols applicable to use in the wider broad access research community.

    To apply:
Visit www.nanoporetech.com/vacancies or email [email protected] with your CV/resume and a cover letter, specifying the job for which you are applying.

Essential Discoveries and Tools in Epitranscriptomics
    by seqadmin

The field of epigenetics has traditionally concentrated more on DNA and how changes like methylation and phosphorylation of histones impact gene expression and regulation. However, our increased understanding of RNA modifications and their importance in cellular processes has led to a rise in epitranscriptomics research. “Epitranscriptomics brings together the concepts of epigenetics and gene expression,” explained Adrien Leger, PhD, Principal Research Scientist on Modified Bases...

    Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
    by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...
