  • Unexpected power failure during run

Hey NextSeq500 users, has anyone experienced an unexpected power failure during their run? Have you determined any causes? A instrument power failure occurred 10 hours into my last run.

As in the sequencer just died while the power was still on in building? Do you not use UPS's on your sequencers to filter out power anomalies?

The power failure was not a result of a utility failure. Yes, the instrument was connected to a UPS. It appears to be an instrument power failure.

I assume you have eliminated a faulty UPS as a possible cause? If your sequencer is under a maintenance contract you should contact Illumina tech support ASAP.

Never seen a sequencer just die (out of 20 over years) so something is not right.

          Update: NextSeq500 Power Failure

The power failure turned out to be a failure of one the computer fans in the instrument. After 10 hours into the run when the computer started heating up with the processing of data, the processing unit overheated and shutdown.

I get that a lot. Mostly because I have a lot of electronics and a lot of load on the network. Sometimes it goes out. The main thing is to use the equipment well. Because a short circuit can happen. And it can burn out all the wiring, which nobody wants, I'm sure. And that's it, I've got the guys for everything, it's the residential electricians Minneapolis. My main thing is that they solve the problem quickly and efficiently. Everyone's place of residence, of course. But you get the point. I don't have to deal with it myself, I'd rather pay and stay healthy.

              Strategies for Sequencing Challenging Samples
              by seqadmin

Despite advancements in sequencing platforms and related sample preparation technologies, certain sample types continue to present significant challenges that can compromise sequencing results. Pedro Echave, Senior Manager of the Global Business Segment at Revvity, explained that the success of a sequencing experiment ultimately depends on the amount and integrity of the nucleic acid template (RNA or DNA) obtained from a sample. “The better the quality of the nucleic acid isolated...
