http://bbsrc.ac.uk/ is working. So likely not a general domain issue.

Perhaps some kind of hardware/software failure?

      Maybe a DNS problem?

      Code:
      ping www.bioinformatics.bbsrc.ac.uk
      ping: unknown host
OK, just keep waiting, time to start into the weekend 8-)

Looks like it. Perhaps someone forgot to renew the DNS registration. I just emailed someone I know there about this.

Sorry, it's probably our fault. Our IT services were doing DNS updates yesterday and it looks like something went wrong. I'll get on to them to get it sorted out. If you need a copy of fastqc quickly then email me ([email protected]) and I'll send you one directly - it's not very big.

I just wanted to see if I am up-to-date with my current version 0.10.0 .. :-)

Yes, there hasn't been an update for a while (I've been spending too much time working on SeqMonk lately). I've got a few improvements in the development version but it's still got some glitches to iron out.

Having talked to our IT people the website problem is definitely a DNS error on our end. They're working on it now but it might take a while for the fix to propagate.

Thanks for pointing this out - it could easily have been down all weekend otherwise.

If desperate, you can kludge it back to working by putting

                149.155.200.2 www.bioinformatics.bbsrc.ac.uk

                into /etc/hosts or LMHOSTS (windows)

Looks like the DNS issue has been resolved. Ten minutes ago I couldn't access the domain www.bioinformatics.bbsrc.ac.uk, but just now I was able to download the latest copy of SeqMonk.

                  Thanks!

On top the DNS issue the routing of our entire site experienced an extended outage this afternoon, we are hoping they get it under control again soon...

Thanks for your patience whilst we sorted this out. Just one note - if anyone used Nick's temporary fix to get to our site you will need to now remove this entry from your hosts file as our external IP address has now changed.

                        by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...

Despite advancements in sequencing platforms and related sample preparation technologies, certain sample types continue to present significant challenges that can compromise sequencing results. Pedro Echave, Senior Manager of the Global Business Segment at Revvity, explained that the success of a sequencing experiment ultimately depends on the amount and integrity of the nucleic acid template (RNA or DNA) obtained from a sample. “The better the quality of the nucleic acid isolated...
