  • Research Associate (Bioinformatics) Centre for Trophoblast Research, Cambridge, UK

    We are looking for an experienced bioinformatician who will work within the Centre for Trophoblast Research (CTR) Bioinformatics Facility and assist in supporting approximately 30 research groups focussing on aspects of maternal-fetal interactions during pregnancy.

    The applicant should be familiar with established bioinformatic analytical pipelines, as well as the use of Linux, high performance computing and general programming in Perl, Python and/or R. The applicant should be motivated to learn new skills if necessary, as well as be an excellent communicator, for s/he will need to work well in a team and collaborate with other researchers and students. The role will encompass providing advice on experimental design, statistics, bioinformatics data visualisation, and analysis. The applicant must also be highly organised, documenting their work clearly and using code repositories e.g. Git. (Training will be provided if necessary)

    Applicants should have a PhD in a relevant discipline (e.g. life sciences). Previous experience in RNA-Seq, epigenetics or trophoblast research would be an advantage.

    Key Tasks: - Running established bioinformatics pipelines (.e.g. RNA-Seq, Whole Genome) - Analysis of data sets using Bioconductor/R packages - Presenting and explaining bioinformatics results to CTR members - Assisting with preparation and delivery of teaching materials

    Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 3 years in the first instance.
