  • Google Maps Compilation of NGS instruments

Nick Loman and James Hadfield have been working on a slick google maps-based compilation of instrument locations throughout the world. There have been a couple of threads on it already ( Here and here ),

I wanted to make sure that this great effort is seen by those that may venture into the Service Providers forum.

The map and corresponding instrument stats can be found at: http://pathogenomics.bham.ac.uk/hts/ , to which I've set up a redirect from http://map.seqanswers.com to aid the URL-memory impaired (myself).

We have recently launched our map of NGS instruments. Currently it only shows Illumina instruments, HiSeq, MiSeq, NextSeq and NovaSeq, but will soon have PacBio, IonTorrent and a few others.

If we have missed anything, please let us know. At last count we have mapped 650+ instruments. We know there are upwards of 3k instrument in the US, the map has a ways to go.

      Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
      by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...

      Strategies for Sequencing Challenging Samples
      by seqadmin

Despite advancements in sequencing platforms and related sample preparation technologies, certain sample types continue to present significant challenges that can compromise sequencing results. Pedro Echave, Senior Manager of the Global Business Segment at Revvity, explained that the success of a sequencing experiment ultimately depends on the amount and integrity of the nucleic acid template (RNA or DNA) obtained from a sample. “The better the quality of the nucleic acid isolated...
