Default The de novo Genome Assembly Assessment Project (dnGASP)

The de novo Genome Assembly Assessment Project (dnGASP) is one component of the Sequence Mapping and Assembly Assessment Project (SMAAP), which is a collaborative effort among researchers to compare and evaluate methods and strategies for de novo genome assembly (dnGASP) and RNASeq read alignment (RGASP3) using data from 2nd generation sequencing platforms.

dnGASP is being organized by the National Center for Genome Analysis (CNAG) in Barcelona, Spain. RGASP3, the third incarnation of th RNA-Seq Genome Annotation Assessment Project, is the other component of SMAAP and will be organized separately by the CRG and the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute. Both projects will culminate in a workshop hosted by the International Center for Scientific Debate (ICSD) in Barcelona on April 4-7, 2011.

The dnGASP web portal is dedicated to providing the primary point of information and data exchange for dnGASP. We encourage those groups interested in participating in RGASP3 to retrieve the relevant information at the CRG.

All groups interested in testing their algorithms for assembly of large genomes from second generation sequencing data are invited to participate in dnGASP. The format of the project will follow the tradition of the previous "GASP" workshops (CASP, GASP, EGASP, NGASP, RGASP, etc.): a dataset will be provided, submissions of the processed dataset will be solicited, the submissions will be evaluated, and a workshop will be held to discuss the results. More information available at http://cnag.bsc.es.

Team registration and the ability to download the read data should be available by tomorrow Dec. 1st. Assembly submission deadline is currently set for Feb 15th. Please go ahead and join the dnGASP mailing list on Google Groups (http://groups.google.com/group/dngasp) to be notified of future developments.
