  • Data Analyst (Research Associate) at UNC-Chapel Hill, NC, USA

    We are seeking to fill a position to serve as the analyst for the laboratory of Dr. Patrick Sullivan within the UNC Department of Genetics and the UNC Center for Psychiatric Genomics. This position will focus on analysis related to the genetics of psychiatric disorders and pharmacology of various drugs in order to discover genetic markers for psychiatric disorders and identifying potential predisposition to specific drug side effects. This well-funded lab has access to multiple novel data types.

    A Research Associate (Data Analyst) with a strong biostatistics/bioinformatics background and experience in high-level analysis of multiple types of modern genomic datasets (e.g., genome-wide SNP arrays, copy number variation, whole genome sequencing, RNA-sequencing, and epigenomic data). This individual will work in conjunction with teams of other statisticians and analysts.

    Requirements:

    Education requirements: PhD in biostatistics, bioinformatics, genetics, statistical genetics, computer science, or a related field with considerable prior experience. A MS is acceptable if there is an exceptional record of past experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

    Experience requirements:
    -Knowledge of programing languages to manipulate large datasets (e.g., Python or Perl)
    -Experience with statistical software (e.g., R or SAS)
    -Use of standard genomics packages (e.g., PLINK2, IMPUTE, GATK)
    -Bioinformatic integration and pathway analysis-Advanced and highly effective written and verbal communication skills
    -Excellent analytical and problem solving skills with attention to detail and data accuracy
    Strongly preferred:
    -Background in biology
    -Facility in modern complex trait genetics
